Intense pulsed light (IPL) is similar to a laser, but not quite the same. During an IPL photofacial at Lounge of Beauty Medical Spa in Long Beach, California, the pigmented cells within your skin absorb the heat from the light and disappear within weeks. Agnes Lech, RN, and the team take all necessary precautions to give you a safe photofacial using Lumecca by InMode. Schedule your IPL consultation by phone or online today.

IPL Q & A

What is IPL?

Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a type of light that penetrates your skin without damaging the surface. This particular type of light is unique in that it has many wavelengths and is not concentrated or focused like a laser. Instead, it appears in scattered pulses that look a lot like a camera’s flash.

Lounge of Beauty Medical Spa uses Lumecca by InMode for IPL photorejuvenation treatments. The light specifically targets and heats pigmented cells in the layers of skin under the surface. The heat destroys the pigment, causing pigmented lesions to fade or disappear from sight entirely.

Although the treatment is called a photofacial, you don’t have to limit it to your face. You can treat pigmented spots on your neck, decolletage, legs, hands, or arms too.

What are the benefits of an IPL photofacial?

An IPL photofacial at Lounge of Beauty Medical Spa can clear your skin of many common spot types and pigmented lesions. After a series of IPL photofacials, you can see marked clearance of:

  • Freckles
  • Birthmarks
  • Sun spots
  • Spider veins
  • Port-wine stains
  • Rosacea redness

Typically, pigmented lesions like freckles and birthmarks clear faster after IPL photofacials than vascular lesions like spider veins and port-wine stains.

What should I expect during an IPL photofacial?

When you come in for an IPL photofacial, your Lounge of Beauty Medical Spa provider gives you a protective pair of sunglasses to shield your eyes from the bright flashes of light. With each flash, you’ll feel some warmth and the sensation of skin tightness.

Typically, a treatment with Lumecca IPL takes 20-30 minutes. Depending on the number of spots and lesions you need to treat, and their types, you’ll need either one or two procedures with Lumecca at Lounge of Beauty Medical Spa.

What should I expect after an IPL photofacial?

Following each IPL photofacial session, you might notice that your spots appear darker for a period of 24-48 hours. This is completely normal and should not concern you. Within the week, they rise to the surface and flake off your skin. Any targeted vascular lesions may change color before disappearing as well.

You can see the full effect of each IPL photofacial treatment within two to three weeks of the appointment.

An IPL photofacial can transform your skin from spotted to clear in a matter of weeks. Schedule your IPL consultation by phone or online at Lounge of Beauty Medical Spa to learn more today.
